This superb museum covers several floors with well-documented exhibits including some 3000 bronze sculptures and fragments in Hellenistic Greek style.  You can also see several underwater archaeological finds, amazing terracotta figurines from the 7th century and Roman statues and heads.

The Provincial Archaeological Museum 'Francesco Ribezzo' can be found in Piazza Duomo right next to the Cathedral. It is located in a beautiful 18th-century building and will show you the rich history and culture of  Brindisi and it's region. It features a variety of artifacts and exhibits from the prehistoric era to the Middle Ages.

The museum also has a beautiful courtyard with beautiful climbing plants.

origin of the name

This museum is named after the distinguished archaeologist and glottologist Francesco Ribezzo (1875-1952).  The building has several large rooms in which Attic vases of considerable interest  are preserved and the famous bronzes of Punta del Serrone, Pieces of bronze sculptures from ancient times that divers found over the years in the sea North of Brindisi.

how to get there

The museum can be found in the historical centre of Brindisi next to the Cathedral  and is best accessible on foot during a Brindisi City Walk.  Free entrance.  Usually the  schedules are: Tuesdag to Sunday 9 AM -7.15 PM ; Closed on Monday. Times may vary depending the season and on holidays.
