must-see museum

This palazzo dating 1565 is absolutely a place to visit for many reasons,  especially for its history, art exhibitions, architecture and archaeological Roman findings. But one of the main reasons to pay a visit to the building is the presence of the  original capital of one of the two Roman columns that can be found near the Brindisi port; the symbols of the town at the end of Via Appia. The original capital  is a beautiful piece of art in white marble, with a variety of craved sea creatures. Observe these amazing mythological creatures and spot the mighty Neptune; the sea god and the protector of Brindisi's port!

renaissance style

This  is a typical Renaissance palace that was owned by the famous Brindisi  Granafei's family and later on by the Nervegna's. Look for example at  the beautiful facade where you will see some Latin epigraphs that were considered like horrible witchcraft formulas by the illeterate people of the period. But no worries - part of the  epigraphs is aimed at encouraging people to live well.  And last but not least, check out the Granafei's family crest on the portal: a lion with some ears of grain in its mouth, a symbol to celebrate the prosperous commercial activities of this family. Before leaving the palace, remember to buy some gadgets and souvenirs of the city, in the bookshop of the palace.

latin epigraphs translated

The mentioned epigraphs say: “The wise man builds the house, the fool  destroys it instead” - “Why does the wise man need wealth, since he can't buy wisdom?”- “Those who answer before listening to the question are a fool and worthy to be condamned.” - “Do not love sleep otherwise you will impoverish.”
