The beautiful St. Theresa square is located in the historic centre of Brindisi, in the homonymous square with romantic trees and a lovely breeze in summer time. From this square you will have a beautiful view over the natural sea port.

St. Theresa church with its amazing ceiling is located in the historic centre of Brindisi, in the homonymous lovely square overlooking the sea. This church is a typical example of Baroque architecture and was completed in the year 1697. Initially it was flanked by the Convent of the 'Discalced Carmelites', today being the seat of the State Archives.
The rich exterior facade of the church has beautiful stone inserts and inside you can find the prestigious canvas of 'St. Andrea', the macenula of the 'Madonna del Carmine' and the papier-mâché statues of the 'Medici Saints'.
war memorial on the square
From St. Theresa square, it is possible to admire the monument dedicated to the about 500 fallen Brindisini of the First World War. The backside of this war memorial monument shows the names of the associated battlefields. This special monument had various locations in other squares of the city and then finally landed here in 1940 in Piazza Santa Teresa.
Edgardo Simone was the Brindisi artist who created the monument during the 1930's. He developed his fortune by creating about 30 monuments, not only in numerous Italian cities but also throughout the world. Simone later moved to the United States. First to New York and then later to Hollywood, becoming a famous set designer for some of the cinema giants of the time.
how to get there
St. Theresa church square is located in the heart of the historic city center and are best accessible on foot during a city walk. The square is publicly accessible, but the church unfortunately is rarely open to be viewed from the inside.
